Lifting Fog Over Sand Verbena
About the Photograph
An unusual layer of morning fog hangs over a field of sand verbena in the lower Anza-Borrego Desert as it begins to lift shortly after sunrise. The first pink light reaches the San Ysidro Mountains beyond the flowers, creating a brief convergence of desert bloom, fog and dawn light.

Field Notes
This was a rare moment of morning fog lifting over the sand verbena in the lower desert. I made the photograph only minutes after sunrise as pink sunlight began illuminating the San Ysidro Mountains. Watching the fog slowly reveal the flowers and mountains took my breath away.
